Who is Wade Callahan?
Wade Callahan is the editorial pen name of How To Go Fishing, a small independent publisher writing for people who fish from the bank, a boat, a pier or the ice. Wade is not one person with a résumé: the name lets the site speak with one consistent voice, and we would rather say so plainly than invent a biography or a catch history.
What we publish
Species guides with size, water temperature, best months and the baits and rigs that suit each fish. Rig and knot guides with original diagrams. Bait and lure lists, line, rod, reel and hook explainers written around specs, and timing pages that show when to fish by month and region.
How we write
Every page opens with the answer, then gives the detail. We state what our sources state: state fish and wildlife agencies, NOAA Fisheries, the USGS Nonindigenous Aquatic Species database, university extension services, and the International Game Fish Association for records. Where sources differ we show a range, and where a fact depends on the state or region we say which. Limits, seasons and license rules differ by state, so we link the relevant agency instead of quoting them as universal. Read the full editorial policy.
Nobody pays to appear in or change a guide.
